Gordon Mansfield introduces Small Cell Forum release initiative which aims to accelerate small cell adoption across all major use cases. The Small Cell Forum publishes a release when a significant body of work is completed and this serves as the theme for the release. The theme of Release One is the Home, providing everything operators need to know in order to successfully deploy residential femtocells.
Release One also contains important new work packages to drive enterprise, metro, and rural small deployments. Subsequent releases will build on this work and continue the theme of guiding rollouts with major updates to rural cells and multi-technology small cells that intelligently integrate 3G, LTE and Wi-Fi.READ MORE

Small cell base stations have become one of the leading solutions to address the imbalance in supply and demand of mobile network capacity. Further, they have been identified as a key technology to enable spectrum sharing schemes. The subject of small cells is not one of “why,” but rather “how.” Specifically: “How to deploy small cell base stations cost effectively.” This paramount question is far encompassing and cuts across the myriad of issues at the core of small cell base station deployments such as site acquisition, installation, and backhaul. Hence, the question of cost is not singularly unique to any one specific function – rather, a comprehensive approach is required to solve the small cell cost challenge.READ MORE

BLiNQ Networks has launched the X-100, a small cell backhaul solution. The rapidly scalable self-organizing system eliminates capacity hotspots. The X-100 uses non-line-of-sight (NLOS) and point-to-multipoint technologies.
As BLiNQ’s X-100 systems provide a cost effective solution for heterogeneous network deployments, mobile operators are able to deploy small cells exactly where they are needed while significantly reducing the time and expense associated with traditional backhaul solutions.READ MORE
